Babsy-ABC: E for English – Bilingualism at the Heart of Babsy

Since the very beginning in 2018, Babsy has been shaped by two languages: German and English. From day one, we wanted to build bridges – between families, Sitter, cultures, and of course, languages. What started as an idea has now become part of our identity: Babsy is, and always has been, bilingual.

Why English Matters at Babsy

Our community is diverse, and so are the families who use Babsy. English has become a common bridge that connects us and makes communication easier – whether it’s for parents new to Switzerland, Sitter bringing international experiences, or our team members themselves with different backgrounds.

With English, we create opportunities:

  • Parents feel welcome, even if German isn’t (yet) their everyday language.
  • Sitter can present their profiles and communicate more easily.
  • Our team stays international, open, and flexible.

At Babsy, language is not a barrier – it’s a bonding element.

Our English Helper Team

We are especially proud of our six-member English helper team. These dedicated volunteers support us in preparing content bilingually, aligning our communication, and helping new team members get started. This shows not only how much we have grown as an association but also how innovative and inclusive our approach is.

The Challenges – and How We Overcome Them

Of course, working in two languages also brings challenges. Some processes take longer, since texts need to be checked twice or translations aligned. New team members sometimes need a little time to feel confident switching between languages.

But we see these challenges as an investment in quality and openness. They help us communicate more clearly, avoid misunderstandings, and serve the needs of our community even better.

Our Conclusion: Bilingualism is Our Strength

In the end, the benefits far outweigh the effort. Thanks to English, we reach more families, more Sitter, and can work as a team that is more open, international, and connected. Bilingualism makes Babsy vibrant and reflects exactly what we stand for: innovation, inclusion, and community.

For E as in English, we are reminded of something very simple: language connects – and at Babsy, we connect people.
