C for Crew

The word “crew” instead of “team”? Yes, exactly, because from the beginning, we were like a ship on a stormy sea. We needed and still need each and every one of us. So, not just a team, but the superlative, the crew. Welcome aboard Babsy!

Babsy is truly a masterpiece of collaboration and team spirit. When we are brave, we will be safe on our course! Babsy is dedicated to this path and creed. Because everyone has contributed their special heartfelt part, it was and still is possible to create, live, and develop the “miracle” of Babsy.

The Emotional Vision:

We almost tear up when writing this, thinking back to how it all began. It wasn’t always easy; we often reached our limits mentally, physically, and emotionally. But like with a real baby, we also mobilized our “village” for Babsy – our crew stepped up.

It wasn’t always easy. Not everyone supported our mission. This sometimes affected us, but as a crew, it made us stronger. We knew and know our vision and course, and we were convinced that the right followers would find us. Innovation requires time, perseverance, and charisma.

Without the people who made and make Babsy what it is, we would have often been on the verge of capsizing. But it is the crew, the people who believe in the same thing, feel the same, and can see the big picture in the distance, who make the difference. There were many hurdles, so we had to quickly develop as a team to overcome one storm after another. We became more agile, grew as a team, and ultimately, to this day, remained true to our course.

One of the biggest hurdles was to communicate the giant project Babsy, which is meant to span generations and be passed on, in an understandable way. The complexity is hardly comprehensible to outsiders, as Babsy is divided into numerous sub-projects and includes industry-wide support programs. Our mission was clear!

Team Development:

In the very beginning, when E-Babsy was still around, Melanie Hara and René Aeberhard were initially on board, later replaced by Sophia Banner. The president Andrea, as you know from the first blog post “A,” has always remained. Then, the first new faces joined. Treasurer Oliver Jucker and the wonderful Stephanie Sumsander (formerly Muffler) and Sarah Jakob. Saving a business idea requires enormous ambition and the right people by your side.

A stormy time came when the founder Sophia sought a new calling outside of Babsy, and Andrea went on a world trip to recharge her batteries.

With shaky internet connection, Andrea tried to support the remaining team, especially Stephanie and Sarah, with information and advice during her world trip. This was anything but easy at times.

With a lot of energy and creativity, the two power women slowly made progress, started with the first documents that needed to be worked on and created at that time, and held conversation after conversation with parents and sitters (then still on-site with massive time investment at the sitters’ and parents’ homes). With each onboarding, additional topics like insurance, AHV contributions, fees, etc., had to be considered.

The world trip ended, and Andrea returned to the team beaming with joy, overjoyed that so much could be accomplished. With newfound motivation and strength, continuous development and optimization took place, new projects were added, meet & greets were organized, photo shoots were held, and even the first app was planned.

Sarah also moved on after some time due to personal circumstances but remained in the crew as a mom and caregiver. Ferdinand and Alvin joined, and for a short time, Barbara and Anita also accompanied us, leaving a lasting impression with their intense commitment and great ideas.

It was professionalized, planned, submitted, developed, and rejections were received.

Before the well-known Babsy app existed, we often reached our emotional and physical limits. Maroi, one of the first sitters, joined the team together with Konstantin, who could only help for a short time, as well as Simone, Paris, and Esther. Paris from El Salvador brought enormous knowledge with his activities and is still an active and enthusiastic crew member today. Stefanie also complemented us wonderfully with her vast knowledge.

What distinguishes a good team from a great team is that even former crew members remain closely connected with us. We still benefit from their ideas and insights. An eternal bond has been formed.

Today, there are about 20 helpers in the pool, and we want to express our immense gratitude because, without these people, we could not live our mission, grow, and expand.
